Abstract
The purposes of this study were to identify different degree of subjective well-being across life cycles in adulthood and influential factors on subjective well-being based on Alderfer¡¯s ERG theory and to suggest implications of improving their subjective well-being. Data used in this study were from the 8th Korean General Social Survey (2010). The cases for this study were total 1,557 individuals who consisted 660 young-aged adults under 40, 574 middle-aged adults under 60, and 323 old-aged adults over 60. The data were analyzed by hierarchical regression analysis. The results showed that subjective well-being of the old-aged adult group was lower than the young and the middle aged adult groups. The economical satisfaction was a common predictor in all adult aged groups and the effects of existence needs, relatedness needs and growth needs factors on subjective well-being were different in each group. The most important predictors of subjective well-being were sense of hope in the young-aged group, economical satisfaction in the middle-aged group, and subjective health in the old-aged group. Based on these findings, practical and political implications for improving subjective well-being were discussed.
